Non-Toxic & Safe Natural Grub Control

Grubs are a dreaded lawn pest and can kill your lawn if there is a large enough population. Most people control grubs with an application of harsh chemicals in May or June. Those chemicals sit on the lawn all season and kills grubs when they hatch in August or September. Thankfully, there is an effective, organic, and safe solution for controlling grubs called Beneficial Nematodes, which are non-toxic and also healthy for the soil. Beneficial Nematodes will reduce the number of grubs in your lawn by 50% – 75%, which should be enough to keep them from causing damage.

We use Koppert Larvanem Beneficial Nematodes, which contain Heterorhabditis Bacteriophora (third stage larvae) in inert carrier material. They target the larvae of different bettle species, penetrate them, feed on their contents, and discharge a specific bacteria that break down the larvae tissue, which leads to their death in a matter of days.

Directions

Application Timing:

  • The best time to apply Beneficial Nematodes for natural grub control is the early Fall or late Summer (August – October), when the grub eggs that have been laid throughout the Summer are starting to hatch, resulting in small and vulnerable grubs that are more easily controlled.

Before Application:

  • Measure the square footage of the area you're treating, so you can make sure to apply the proper amount of Beneficial Nematodes. Here's an online tool if you need help measuring: findlotsize.com.
  • After you purchase the proper amount of nematodes for your lawn, you'll want to use them right away and use all of them. Make sure not to leave any in the sprayer to apply later because they'll be dead and no longer affective. Get them into the soil right away where they can survive and kill grubs for you.
  • If you have noticed grub damage in your lawn, or seen grubs in your soil, we recommend applying the heavier rate per square foot.
  • If critters are your main concern, we recommend applying the heavy rate per square foot in late August, and then using a traditional organic fertilizer, like Healthy Lawn for your early Fall application.
  • We'll send you a dried powder that should be kept cold until you're ready to use them (refrigerate).
  • We recommend purchasing an Auto-Mix Hose End Sprayer, or a similar sprayer for application.

General Application:

  • The most important note about Beneficial Nematodes is apply them in the evening, or on a cloudy day.
  • Make sure you water your lawn well after the application to help them get into the soil.
  • Simply fill the hose end sprayer with water, add 1/2 the bag of powder, put the lid on and shake it gently.
  • Set your sprayer to apply 2-4 ounces per gallon, and spray until your container is empty.
  • Repeat the above step with the 2nd half of the bag.
