Special Grass Seed Blend For Lawn Establishment

A special blend of grass seeds for the Midwest, designed to provide a healthy, long-lasting lawn that will stand up to weather extremes in sun or shady areas. This is an ideal seed blend for new or Turf Type Tall Fescue lawns.

Tip: The ideal time to start a new lawn is at the end of Summer (Late August – Early September). If you must seed a new lawn in the Spring, don’t expect all the seed to survive the hot Summer weather.

Directions
  1. Prepare Soil: Create a seedbed with 2 inches of loose topsoil. Do this by applying new topsoil or loosening your existing soil with a rake, Garden Weasel, or rototiller.
  2. Determine Lawn Area (findlotsize.com).
  3. Mulch Seed
  4. Protect Seed: Cover the new seed with high quality compost or straw to prevent washout and retain moisture. Use 1 bale of straw per 1,000 square feet.

Watering Guidelines

Overall Goal: Build Deep Root System

  • Watering Is Critical To Seeding Success: Follow the general guidelines below and discontinue your watering session if you see puddling or runoff. Avoid watering after 2pm to prevent disease issues that can stem from the grass being wet all night.

Weeks 1–2 Goal: Keep Area Moist

  • Manual Sprinklers: Turn on daily for up to 3 hours in one place to keep the area wet.
  • Auto Sprinklers: Use 30 minutes twice per day in the morning and early afternoon.

Weeks 3-4 Goal: Keep Rootzone Moist

  • Manual Sprinklers: Turn on up to 4 hours every other day.
  • Auto Sprinklers: Use 1 hour per zone every other day.
